Church Planters,
At Mars Hill we started out using a combination of QuickBooks and Access. QBs tracked our financial data; donors, checks and cash received, accounts payable and our assets, while Access tracked the information (name, address, children, relationship with MH ie. member or visitor, skills and talents) we collected from our members and visitors. As we grew it became harder to synchronize the information from QBs to Access. We had a correct address in QBs because a member would write it on their checks, but wouldn’t fill out an info card with the same updated information so Access was now giving incorrect data. Of course this problem worked the other way too so that Access was accurate instead of QBs.
This was an especially frustrating problem come January when we needed to send out Giving Statements for our donors’ tax returns and half of our letters came back undeliverable because the donor had moved during the year, or for that matter the last 3 years for all we knew.
We spent considerable time finding a software solution that could handle our Giving, Member, Visitor, Skills, Talents, and Service info for our body. The solution we found, and have been pleased with, was Logos II and Logos General Ledger. www.logoslbe.com check out their PowerPoint tours online.
Logos is a very robust and customizable program used to track everything you can imagine about a person. It can track a person’s basic information like address and phone numbers, their blood type, the hand they write with, the hand they swing the bat with, their class attendance, how much they gave and pledged, where they serve and what particular skills they have. So if we collected and needed the data we could find a southpaw, gourmet chef, that has completed all but one gospel class and serves with the set up and tear down crew, pledged over 10k a year, but gave less than $666, and lives in Omaha, Nebraska. We could then sort this “huge” list of people by their cell phone number.
Logos was not cheap like most high quality products. We have been able to work a deal with our Rep that would allow considerable savings to be passed onto our church plants. The normal price for the ideal combination of Logos II and Logos GL with unlimited support calls for a year is $3230 with a payment plan of 1076.66 a month for three months. The discount Acts 29 received was both products and the phone support for only $1580 with a payment plan of $264 a month for 6 months.
